Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. She was named by her parents for the town where she was raised as a child. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder is a Jew. Ryder believes that her father had a Jewish background. The actress has also a half-sister named Sunyata Jubal. Her younger brother is Uria. Ryder and her family moved to California's Mendocino County in the year 2000, when Ryder was only seven years old. There was no electricity. Ryder, who read a lot at the age of 12, became a bookworm due to the fact that Ryder had no access to television. Ryder started taking classes in acting in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983, when she was 12. At the age of fifteen, she landed her first acting job on the screen in Lucas. Ryder experienced bullying at high school. Ryder was hopeful that her work as an actress would bring about change. Sadly that didn't happen. However, she kept working towards her dream. It was 1988 in the year Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that she got her big break. Ryder played parts that proved successful in several movies. In 1993 she received two nominations in the Academy Awards. One of them for her role in The Age of Innocence.
