Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the top-streamed track within 6 months. The single Despacito, a mixture of reggaeton and pop, not only brought new focus to reggaeton, but also sparked interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish languages, while the year the year 2016 featured four. In the midst of Despacito's fame in the year 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish songs that were included in the Top 100. Then in 2020 it was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Then, various artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars such as Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma with Medellin 2019 In 2020, several Reggaeton artists were complaining about the trend of the genre toward the mainstream. Yet, a young generation, such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to maintain the development. He used elements from other styles and electronic music.
